Having lived both in the city and in the county, I stared, in disbelief, at the headlines lauding the areas of the county that voted for annexation. I truly believe I'm going to invest heavily in worthless swamp land.. and ask mayor Jones to sell it for me. For those of you reading this that voted for annexation, I don't know everything that was promised to you to get you to vote 'for' annexation..I do,however, know ..you already got it..hope Mayor Jones hugged your neck at least. Think I'm just kidding? Well lets just see. Were you promised city water and sewage? You think thats a good deal? Did they give you an idea of how long it would be before sewage service would be available to your neighborhood,if ever? Did they not tell you that 'when' sewage service comes to your neighborhood ,and they run it by your house, they will offer you a chance to 'tie' in to it. Now here's where it gets stinky. They don't hook you up for 'free' you'll pay a 300-700 dollars hook-up fee. thats not counting what it will cost you to hire a plumber to run a new sewage line from your house to the street(would have been approx $1400.00 when they did it to me, and my house was pretty close to the street) to tie into your new city sewage service. Oh yeah.. I'm pretty sure they have a law against septic tanks in the city so,if you decide to tie into city sewage.. I'm pretty sure you'll be required to have your old tank dug up and disposed of.. at your expense of course.... but you will be grand-fathered in..UNTIL THEY RUN THE SEWAGE LINES DOWN YOUR STREET. They might be even charging you now for sewage check your new city water bill..see if there is a sewage charge on it. They did it to me..and they will to you.. so don't laugh. When/if they run the sewage line past your house, and you decide to 'not' tie into it, you will still be charged a sewage fee..as i said before.. they did it to me..charged me for a service they couldn't even proivide...now for the long term cost to you..sewage fee is for processing water used. In the middle 80's my water bill was approx 17-27 dollars.. depending if it was winter /summer. the sewage portion of that bill would range from 43-63 dollars and i wasn't even 'tied-in' to their system. After numerous phone calls and lots of arguing/cursing/threatening they still were charging me a minimum sewage charge of some 6-7 dollars a month for sewage(which still irks me to this day). I'll save paved streets for my next blog.. so tune in again..there's more to follow.
