This summer, in Denver, promises to be the "Where it's at" place for todays anarchists when the 2008 version of the 'Chicago Riots' in 1968, at the Democratic national Convention, occured.

The radical leftist group at    recreate68.org   is ramping up to put on the most explosive demonstration in American poitical history. Their hopes are to exceed the violence in Chicago while professing a non-violent approach to the issues they hope to change and influence.

The following is taken from the Denver Post out of the article entitled "Trying to keep peace at DNC"........."Lead organizer, Glenn Spagnuola, says he hopes to frame the debate from the outset in terms of nonviolence and to coordinate security planning in such a way that Police and Protestors interact peacefully."

Well, Spagnuola, how will you do that? How will you "frame the debate" when all of the action will be conducted out in the streets and parks of the city? How will you keep control of an angry mob?

The city and state have the burden of that responsibility but I doubt that they will be welcome to enforce the laws onto a crowd many times their size and, possibly, better armed than them.

Organizers are expecting crowds into the tens of thousands to come to Denver. Anyone with a scintilla of common sense knows to expect that an influx of that many angry and  frustrated folks, mostly young and idealistic at best, who are either motivated by, racial issues, anti-war sentiments, anti-capitalism, anti-borders, environmental issues, gay rights, etc., etc., etc. is an invitation to clash with one another as well as with the authorities whose job it is to keep the violence down.

There are too many ironies involved with this event to consider here but I do find it incongruent that, for example:

People will be there to demand 'rights' at the expense of others 'rights'.

The Anti-War people are going to Denver to declare and engage in War.

The city will most likely be trashed, by the environmentally concerned.

People will be injured and, possibly, killed by the violence that will occur at this 'Peace Rally'.

I am not opposed to peaceful demonstrations, rallys or protest; I attended many myself in the 60's & 70's. However, given todays societal probems compared to those of my youth and the violence in everyday life in this country I do not see how these organizers can expect anything less than violent and deadly chaos.

The convention in Boston, 2004, was contained with a fence, that won't be the case this year. Good luck Denver!

recreate68.org     for anyone curious to know more.

All it would take is a couple wierdo's with a separate agenda to create pure chaos, a couple flash-bangs, tear gas grenades, or smoke bombs, and the panic would ensue.
The DNC needs to hold their fiasco in the boonies, away from any metropolitan centers, limit the port-a-potties for the crowd.

Another hippie turned cynic. It's too bad, you could have helped mold this country into one that would have never voted for Bush. Perhaps you should be begging for the loosening of marijuana laws.

I typed in this blog, then logged out until now; I wish that I had read/revised it. It is poorly composed and punctuated. My feelings of this event are not of cynicism, anger, fear, or any emotion other than concern that this event is intended to cause mayhem for the sake of it.
The very slogan 'recreate 68' seems to me a call out for violence and confrontation. That was the result in Chicago, violence, and nothing positive was achieved from it, nothing was made different; the war in Viet Nam continued on for another 7 years or so. Mayor Daly maliciously gave the cops carte blanche and heads were busted, the city was burned and looted and lives were destroyed.
The only point that was proven then was that violence begets more violence. History has proven that anarchy can be productive when the ideoloy necessary to inspire change is cohesively presented to and then agreed on by the masses. This movement does not require the unity it espouses, this is a sham and many ideologues are being duped into believing that they will actually bring about an immediate resolution to their aims. I hope that they are are not harmed.

aksjfd...have a good time in Denver!

AKS..To paraphrase a line out of Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles, "I don't need no stinking souvenier".

Alright, I'll bite! Are you really going to Denver or were you being facetious? If so, which agenda is most motivating you to go?

A nephew is hoping to go there, with college friends, for envirnmental causes; my sister is hoping to persuade him (good luck, eh?) to promote local issues instead of getting mixed up with the Denver crowds. I understand his passion for his cause, he works for the 'Sea Lab' on Dauphin Island, Alabama while attending school. I think part of the draw for him, really, is to be a part of something radical and exciting. I recall the exhilaration of my experiences back in the day and the feeling of empowerment that I shared with other hopeful youths. I would like to think that he will not participate in, or suffer from, any type of physical conflict.

As for your remark, 'Hippie turned Cynic', you have no idea of how corrupt the left has become in the 50 years that I have been aware of the 'Beat Generation'. You want to know where the altruistic people are these days? Go to Iraq and talk to a soldier!

garamps, my perception is that AKS might owe you some form of apology. Based upon your prose in all posts, you speak from the position of retrospect rather than pure emotion.
And AKS, if you go to Denver don't miss going to Elitch Gardens, you'll have a BLAST!!
As for the pot, as Peter Tosh said, "Legalize It, Don't Criticize It". Tax it.
That would put a lot of dealers out of business.

DHW...Ahoy there!
I used up a couple of Bic Pens over the years signing every NORMAL petition I ran across at Airports, Universities, Festivals, and Fairs etc.
Hee, Hee, Peter Tosh for 'Surgeon General'!
I was sorta looking for Clintons Surgeon General, Joycelyn Elders, to approach Marijuana as a medical benefit but the Masturbation issue opened up the 'exit now' door for her when Clinton decided that she was exceeding her area of responsibility to the publics health. Too bad he didn't listen to her, it maight have been helpful for keeping his fly closed around interns! LOL!

There are some on the left already blaming Rush and his "operation chaos", for encouraging people to go to Denver and riot. In my lifetime, I don't recall any group from the right ever protesting, especially violently. Protests usually originate on the left. Am I wrong? The only exception may be the Revolutionary War, though I didn't participate in that one.

Denver is a hot-bed already. The city has been trashed by illegal aliens. Add a swell of hired-hand liberals to folks already hot under the collar! Then add disgruntled Obama disciples learning for the first time that the DNC had no intention of nominating their god after all. No wonder Rush made that comment.

The same people claiming to be pacifists are the ones throwing blood, slashing tires on SUV's, shoving people trying to sign up for the military. These are the same people flying across the globe for photo ops with dictators who shoot and jail their own citizens for speaking out. How's that for hypocritical.

PhoenixJane--hypocritical is choosing to go to Iraq rather than Darfur when:

1. Al Queada is the Janjaweed.
2. THe govt. of Sudan offers complete support to Al Queada.
3. Al Queada is killing and displacing millions. SOme have called it a genocide.

That is hypocracy at its height. People in Darfur wish they were shot for the reasons you mentioned rather than being shot without reason. Perhaps you should visit the Lost Boys Center in Phoenix.

No, not going to CO. Too busy and my vacations no longer revolve around recreational drugs. That's so 1990s...he he.

Doubt a crazy riot will happen as those on pot aren't known for their grumpiness and never started a riot. The riots, from my understanding, were always started by the cops who usually hold the opposite view of the protestors. Cops and military are usually Republican and do what they are told so they don't smoke pot and are a lil high strung watching people go against their leaders they subconsciously must hate. Then, that boils over into them beating someone laying on the ground with their hand covering thier face. Because cops sometimes forget that they aren't there to be the strongest, just the most level headed.

ak, as usual I wish I understood what you just wrote. The most I can squeak out is that you have some kind of opinion about the Sudan. I've met some of "the lost boys," they weren't still at the center. I've met with missionaries from the Sudan. The people don't like being shot for any reason. It's not a genocide, it's a religious war that has claimed civilian lives. Thank your liberal idiot savants for filling your head with wrong-headed notions about what's happening in Darfur. I'm sure they can use some encouragement.

I'll be extremely frank with you. It's really annoying when opinions flow with such volume and definite information in such short supply. You hate this country, but you wouldn't think of going anywhere else. And obviously you don't know the meaning of "hypocracy," but at least you can spell it. Since the post is about violence and the DNC, I'll add one more item to the list of liberal "hypocrisies." People of your persuasion holler day and night about the war in Iraq which has claimed the lives of four thousand adult volunteers who fully assessed the risk they were taking. Yet you defend the fact that two hundred and twenty five times that number of Americans have had their head, arms, legs pulled off their bodies so they can be sucked through a pipette—THIS YEAR! Nobody asked them anything. What about more than twenty thousand people murdered by illegal aliens in the US over the last seven years. Where's the sympathy now! Yea, h-y-p-o-c-r-i-s-y.

Once again PJ thank you.
You have been far more eloquent than myself.

I was just going to say AK, that is the biggest crock of B.S. that I have ever heard.

Cops starting the riots?
You better check your history, the police in Chicago in 68, stood by for 2 days while being pelted with human waste, rocks and other debris. When the Mayor finally let them do their job, the punks got exactly what they deserved!!

And there most likely will be a riot in Denver. The left wing nuts have already set the stage. It will be them and the opportunists (the looters and such) that will turn up the fire.

If their Liberal Governor has any sense, the National Guard will be brought in for a civil standby, to augment law enforcement.

And you are so good with imaginary information.
"Cops and Military are usually Republican"??
And they don't smoke pot?? Where do you come up with this stuff??

My first impression of you was very low (in the immigration debate). By the time we had finished you had raised my opinion.
But any ground gained, has forever been lost because it is now that I see the real you.

So let me get this straight. The "Left" has no right to protest and should be napalmed? This would be what some of you think by the looks of your posts. It's about time people got off their lazy behinds and took to the streets again. I guess if your organization is against the Patriot Act then you're considered radical. Young and idealistic has become a bad thing now? At least they have the guts to back a cause. It was also mentioned that people were held in a fenced in area of the 2004 convention in Boston, but what was failed to be mentioned was it was only the Democratic side. Republicans were allowed to roam freely. Strange how that wasn't mentioned. I just changed my plans for August. See ya in Denver.

More liberal hypocrisy.

Half an hour prior, you just finished slamming people getting ready to take to the streets to get rid of a left wing nut job. I guess since they are not trying to get rid of a Nazi, they don't have a right to protest. Good grief, which way is it gonna be?

RD & AKS.

Need a place to stay in Denver? Ward Chuchill may have room in his 'Bunker' for you two; y'all might have to share a bed though! Birds of a feather type marraige, nothing permanent! Use protection, don't want to see any Anti-Social diseases spread around when you get back to AZ.

The Napalm comment was spacealiens, not mine. I won't delete that, even though it disturbs me that some are that hateful.

I voiced my interpretation of 'Anarchy' above, in this post. I, in no way, either advocate violence or sitting on my arse. I believe that people will not be heard unless they talk above those that are talking down to them.

This summers protest is, in my opinion, being fomented by the likes of Ward Churchill and other radicals that hate America as it stands for "E Pluribus Unum".

What annoys me, mostly, about those who cry that we are an unfair society is that they themselves are the most bigoted and narrow minded of all. If one believes that past sacrifices are 'passe', or that self preservation is 'selfish' or that the future is of no concern beyond the present, then I say that you are IGNORANT!

And, yes, I do think that there should be "Change" in our countrys' Politically Correct stance; we should not be afraid of offending those who want to take advantage us, we should not be afraid to defend ourselves from those who want to destroy us, we should not be made to explain/excuse ourselves to those who accuse us of being able to do more. Our country is OUR COUNTRY!

Get over it and stop trying to say that we have to give it someone else!

pj: I didn't slam you per-say, I slammed a worthless cause and a hate organization. You're not taking to the streets, you're taking to get signatures in front of somewhere like Wal Mart or wherever they will let you set up a petition table. There's a difference between people going out IN the streets and people sitting on their behinds on the side of the streets.
