I'm taking a break from our continuous coverage of Hurricane Gustav to give you a look behind the scenes...
It's about 10:30 Labor Day morning. I've been at the Fox 10 studios since 3:30 yesterday afternoon. Our Fox 10 News Stormtrackers have been double-teaming the storm, with Chief Meteorologist John Edd Thompson working together with Meteorologist Jason Smith, and Matt Barrentine and Chasity Byrd taking turns to keep you safe.
After an expanded 1 hour newscast Sunday night, I headed to the office of one of our salespeople to catch a few hours of sleep before the alarm went off at 3 a.m. Lenise and I were back on the air at 4:00 with live reports from Denise Hrdlica in D'Iberville, April Douglas, who traveled from Dog River to the Causeway to Cedar Point, and a CNN reporter in Baton Rouge. We also had a host of other reports, including some from our sports folks, whose ability to ad-lib came in very handy!
Now that the storm has made landfall in central Louisiana and the threat to our part of the Gulf Coast has started to diminish, we should be able to scale down our continuous coverage as we try to put Hurricane Gustav behind us.
Happy Labor Day!
